Welcome to Treasure Hunt, the ride through Cannery Row Caverns: A recently discovered network of caverns located beneath the streets of Cannery Row. These caves are believed to be the hideout of infamous Pirate Captain Hippolyte Bouchard, who sacked the town of Monterey and kidnaped Molina, the town drunk!

No one knows what became of Bouchard and his treasure-laden ships. Legend says he stashed his treasure deep inside a secret cave hidden somewhere near the shore of Monterey Bay and left it guarded by a giant Kraken he controlled with a magical conch shell.

Could the recently discovered Cannery Row Caverns be the very same caves Bouchard used for his hideout? We need guests, just like you, who value adventure and fun more than safety to help us solve this mystery and maybe… juuust maybe find Bouchard’s lost treasure.

The Story

Image

Monterey was sacked in 1818 by Hippolyte Bouchard, the only pirate ever to attack the West Coast of the US. Bouchard and his smelly band of buccaneers destroyed the town, stole everything they could carry, and kidnapped Molina, the town drunk. This really happened!

Treasure Hunt: The Ride is built in an old cannery building that overhangs McAbee Beach, where Bouchard and his forces came ashore to begin their attack. THTR lets guests walk in the footsteps of Bouchard and provides a fictional account of the rest of this swashbuckling piece of Monterey’s history.

The ~20 minute immersive adventure begins with your first step onto the stairs that descend around a 30’ tall wooden mast with an animatronic pirate named Shark Bait Sam and his trusty sidekick parrot, Scuttle, perched on the crow’s nest. Several surprises and interactive gags are strategically placed throughout the dense scenery to entertain guests while they wait in line.

The queue line continues below decks, where thrill seekers will watch a short video that delivers some storyline and briefs riders on what to expect when they arrive on the loading platform. Then elevator doors open, and up to 20 guests embark on an elevator ride that delivers them 300’ into the depths of the caverns below… but not everything goes as planned as the elevator ride becomes an adventure all by itself. That’s where you’ll enjoy some rose-scented flatulence, receive more storyline, and meet some new friends that will help you survive your adventure. The sights and thrills continue after guests exit the elevator and approach the loading platform through a cave passage. Just before boarding the ride, guests that purchased a power-up token will have the chance to insert it to receive an exciting “power-up” for their treasure collector. Then the ride begins, delivering nearly 4 minutes of fast-paced, interactive gaming action! But the story doesn’t end when guests get off the ride… one more treat and plot twist awaits as they ascend the exit stairs!

With so much to see and enjoy, you’ll want to ride again and again. So grab that unlimited ride ticket with unlimited Power-Up tokens and plunder all the fun and memories you can from Treasure Hunt: The Ride!
